Morrell got his first career start Saturday against Westover, a 13-0 win. Despite the score, offense was hard to come by for the Trojans. It was a shanked 8-yard punt that but Lee County in touchdown scoring position. Other than a few big plays, the offense still didn't exhibit the type of success it was used to under Collier. Nonetheless, head coach Dean Fabrizio was excited by his play and future.
"We feel he is going to be a real good quarterback for us," Fabrizio said. "But we got to clean up a couple things on offense but Garrett is going to be a real good player for us."
Considering the hype behind the game, the game created a tense environment. The game was a season-opener televised on ESPNU. In addition, Westover's defense in anchor by the top player in the state, Trenton Thompson.
"Of course stepping into replace Stephen (Collier) is big shoes," Fabrizio said. "To have your opening game live on national television and you got the top defensive player in the country lining up across from you that's a tough debut."
Saturday's win was the third straight for Lee County over Westover.
