FORT HUACHUCA, AZ (CBS5) -

A Fort Huachuca soldier was rescued after he became stuck 150 feet above the ground while climbing a rock wall in Huachuca Canyon on Sunday afternoon.

The man was one of two soldiers hiking in the canyon about 2 p.m. when he decided to climb a steep area and got stuck on the rock face, Carol Capas of the Cochise County Sheriff's Office said.

The soldier was able to call 911 and GPS coordinates were secured through the 911 calls, and a Cochise County search and rescue team and an Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter was called, Capas said.

The helicopter crew found the soldier and lifted him to safety, Capas said.
