In wake of CA quake, Pickens Co. reminds residents of risks

PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

In wake of the earthquake that struck the Napa Valley on Sunday, Pickens County Emergency Management officials is reminding residents of the risks in the Upstate.

According to the 2014 U.S. Geological Survey United States National Seismic Hazard Maps, 16 states have a relatively high likelihood of experiencing damaging ground shaking - which includes South Carolina and Tennessee. 

According to emergency management, the epicenter of about six earthquakes were in Pickens County since 1698. The largest was in 1924, a 4.4 magnitude.

While the epicenter was a few counties south, some in Pickens County felt a recent earthquake that struck on Feb. 14, 2014.
