Nothing makes more of a holiday impression than handmade gifts. And this year, get beautiful goods with a compelling story!

WASHINGTON, Aug. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- St. Coletta Shops (www.stcolettashops.com) is a social enterprise selling handmade jewelry, accessories and home décor made by individuals with intellectual disabilities.  Operated by the nonsectarian, nonprofit St. Coletta of Greater Washington (www.stcoletta.org), St. Coletta Shops offers vocational opportunities for adults with disabilities.

All products are made by individuals with disabilities.

See St. Coletta Shops current inventory at http://www.stcolettashops.com.

The St. Coletta artisans' products include fused glass and beaded jewelry, hand-woven scarves and tote bags and hand-dyed silk scarves.  For your home, there is fused glass tableware and hand-woven placemats and napkins.  Your orders will also be packed and shipped by the program's participants.

Adult services for people with disabilities are chronically underfunded and St. Coletta Shops is an effort to help individuals have meaningful work while raising revenue to pay them for that work.  The Shops provide vocational training and retail skills to each participant. As they greet customers, learn to take inventory, count money at the cash register, and package and fulfill online orders, participants learn skills that are transferable to everyday life and outside jobs.

In addition, working at St. Coletta Shops helps prepare adults with disabilities for other work environments by letting them practice basic work skills, like following directions and time on task, in a supportive but real world environment.

When you make a purchase from our online or retail stores, you're not just getting a new tote bag, some earrings or a piece of tableware. You're providing opportunities for someone to develop important creative and vocational skills enabling them to explore their potential through lifelong learning – transforming lives and making a real difference.

Wearing our accessories doesn't just make a statement about your sense of style; it makes a statement about your values.  And gifts from St. Coletta Shops are the gifts that give back.  They make the perfect wedding gift, holiday gift or gift for that someone special.  Each item comes with a card saying it was made by individuals with disabilities right here in the USA!

Fall collection line sheets available.  For more information please contact Rebecca Hill (rhill@stcoletta.org), 202-350-8644 or Jeff Graubard (jgraubard@graubardgroup.com).
