GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greenville girl is playing and running like she used to before her heart failed in January.

After a successful heart transplant surgery in May, Natalie Davis and her mom said hope to meet the family of the child donor.

"Natalie is a living legacy to that person," said Jane Davis, Natalie's mother.

Davis said Natalie suffered from dilated cardiomyopathy, a disease that enlarges the heart. Without a transplant, Davis said, Natalie would have died.

"It was some of the scariest moments of my life," said her mother.

"Not that scary," Natalie said of her surgery. "My mom sweated, though."

In September, the Davis family will walk in the "Little Hearts" American Heart Association Lowcountry Walk to end heart disease. They said any money they can raise for the cause will be appreciated. Davis will walk in honor of her donor.

The family said they still do not know who the donor is, but they should find out in November.
