GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

After a 9-year-old girl accidentally shot and killed an instructor at an Arizona gun range, a Greenville instructor is reminding customers and staff to stay safe.

Jim Braziel  is general manager at Sharpshooters Indoor Range and whenever he picks up a gun, he aims for safety.

"You can't be too safe with a gun," Braziel said. "You always assume a gun is loaded."

Braziel's a retired Greenville County Deputy and knows a lot about guns, but he said before he instructs a customer on taking a shot they target safety rules.

"You can use a gun for recreation, for hunting, or protection," he said. "All guns are loaded and unloaded in the lanes."

On Monday, investigators say an Arizona girl accidentally shot and killed Charles Vacca at a shooting range in Arizona. Vacca's Facebook page states he's from Greenville.

Investigators in Arizona released video of the little girl and Vacca, an instructor at the range, just before the incident. Reports show the girl lost control of a 9 mm automatic Uzi and shot and killed him.

Braziel said he doesn't know the circumstance behind the unfortunate incident in Arizona, but said at Sharpshooters instructors teach safety.

"Customer safety is number one, but also our employee safety is right up there with it," he said.
