Fort Lee identifies soldier who turned gun on self

FORT LEE, VA (WWBT) -

Fort Lee has identified the suicide victim after an incident on base Monday.

Officials say Sgt. 1st Class Paula M. Walker, 33, entered the Combined Arms Support Command headquarters building around 8:45 a.m. and barricaded herself in an office with a firearm. She reportedly turned the weapon on herself during negotiations.

Walker was transported to VCU Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 10:16 a.m.

The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is investigating.

National Guardsman Tony Smith is running from Pulaski, Virginia to Virginia Beach to raise awareness about suicide prevention.
