Tree dedication planned for stillborn giraffe

Posted: Updated:

The Greenville Zoo is planning a special ceremony to honor the giraffe who was recently stillborn.

A tree planting dedication will be held Saturday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. for the giraffe, who they have named "Roho" - which is Swahili for "spirit."

Zoo spokesperson Jeff Bullock said Autumn, the mother of Roho, has been doing well since the stillbirth on Aug. 20.

Bullock said she will be kept separated from the male giraffes for two to three weeks to let her body get back to normal.

The dedication will be open to the public and the zoo said they are planning on having ice cream for visitors.
