UNION, SC (AP/FOX Carolina) -

Union police noticed a car parked in an area with previous vandalism but after running the tag, they said they discovered the driver was wanted in Rock Hill on an attempted murder charge.

Officers on patrol stopped at the Radio Shack on North Duncan Bypass about 6 a.m. on Wednesday where they noticed a man and woman standing outside of a car, according to the police report.

As the officer drove up, the pair got into the car and drove to the drive-thru of a nearby Bojangles, police said. The report said once dispatch ran the tag, they notified officers that it was wanted in connection with an attempted murder case in York County.

Police stopped the car but the driver said he did not have any identification on him, according to the report. The driver was asked to get out of the car, was terry-frisked and told officers his birth date, police said.

Police said the driver and his birth date matched the description for the wanted Rock Hill suspect, Wolfgang Liewald. He was arrested and later transported to York County on the attempted murder warrant. According to the York County jail, Liewald was also charged with criminal conspiracy, first-degree burglary and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

WBTV reported that Liewald was one of three suspects arrested in connection with a shooting on Saturday in Rock Hill. York County deputies identified the two other suspects as Ben Patrick Smith Kaylan Whiteside, who is the granddaughter of the shooting victim.

According to the Associated Press, the victim is a disabled veteran. Wayne Whiteside served two tours in Vietnam and his home flies the Marine Corps and American flags and has other Marines regalia.

Police said the female passenger, Tonya Davis, was also arrested on an outstanding probation and parole warrant.
