Feral cat tests positive for rabies in Henderson Co.

HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Henderson County Sheriff's Office said on Friday that a feral kitten has tested positive for rabies.

Chief Deputy Frank Stout said the kitten was in the Steeplechase Court neighborhood of Carriage Park.

Stout said officers will be going door-to-door to handing out flyers and they will be using a reverse 911 communication for homeowners within a one mile radius.

Anyone who suspects they or their pet has been exposed to the disease should contact their vet or call 828-697-4912.

Stout said it is likely that a wild animal such as a fox or raccoon transmitted the disease to the kitten.
