TFD: Investigation into drowning of Tucson toddler

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -  The investigation continues this morning into the first drowning death in the city of Tucson this year.

It happened last night in midtown at an apartment complex near Ft. Lowell and Columbus.

According to Tucson Fire someone called 911 after a 2-year-old boy was found in the hot tub.  When emergency crews arrived someone was already doing CPR on the child.  The little boy was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Emergency crews are saying there were adults at the pool and there was a gate to the pool area.

Tucson Fire Captain Barrett Baker says it is so important to have active adult supervision around water; have a designated water watcher, someone who will not take their eyes off the water as long as there are children nearby.

There have been almost a dozen near drownings in Pima County in 2014 so far, this is the first within Tucson city limits.

Tucson Fire Department officials would like to remind the public about the ABCs of water safety - A = Active Adult Supervision, kids must be supervised at all times; B = Barriers, make it difficult for children to ever get into water by accident; C = Classes, CPR classes for adults and swimming lessons or classes for kids.  Knowing CPR makes anyone a first responder and makes a difference between drowning or near drowning.
