GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Two firefighters battling a house fire along White Horse Road were injured on Tuesday as response to the blaze slowed down traffic in the area.

The fire was reported at a house on Henry Drive at White Horse Road, which is less than two miles south of Interstate 85.

Gantt Fire Battalion Chief James Freeman said the call came in as a kitchen fire and as firefighters entered the home, hot spots forced them to back out, burning two firefighters in the process.

Paramedics were called for the injured firefighters as the remaining crew worked to extinguish the fire amidst the heat of the day, Freeman said.

There is no word what sparked the fire.

FOX Carolina's Diana Watson was at the scene and said southbound traffic was blocked, causing delays in the area. Freeman said crews had to shut down the highway while they ran hoses from the hydrant to the home.
