SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Troopers are investigating a fatal crash off of Southport Road in Spartanburg that killed a newspaper delivery driver on Wednesday.

According to the Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. on Southport Road at Industrial Park Drive, which is on the south end of the Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport.

Cpl. Bill Rhyne said a 2005 Ford four-door truck was headed west on Industrial Park Drive when the driver ran off the road, hitting a tree, then crossed back over the road, through some grass, and then across Southport Road before ending up in a wooded area.

Rhyne said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the driver as 50-year-old Robert Wade Satterfield, of Roebuck. He said Satterfield delivers papers and unexplainably had the crash.

After an autopsy, Clevenger said they are looking to see if a medical issue may have caused the wreck as there was no trauma from the crash.

Troopers said no other vehicles were involved.
