SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg teen was sentenced to over 16 years after he interrupted his jury trial and admitted to sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl, according to the solicitor's office.

Keshaun Jeter, 19, pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and received a sentence of 200-months on Wednesday.

On Sept. 29, 2012, Jeter sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl at a home in the city of Spartanburg, according to the solicitor's office.

The victim reported Jeter placed his hand over her mouth and forced her to have sex.

He also threatened to kill her if she told anyone what happened, according to the solicitor's office.

When police confronted Jeter about the allegations, he confessed to having sex with the girl and also acknowledged knowing she was 12 years old, according to the solicitor's office.

He will have to serve 80 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for release.
