WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office said they have arrested a security guard after money went missing from a safe at the Oconee Medical Center.

Public information officer Jimmy Watt said the security guard, 24-year-old William Poole, turned himself in and was booked into the detention center on Thursday on grand larceny charges.

On June 26, a hospital employee told deputies that a patient lost $2,900 in $100 bills when he was admitted to the hospital, according to Watt.

Watt said a good Samaritan found the cash and turned it in to the security office where it was placed in a safe until someone could claim it.

The money was later discovered to be missing.

After series of interviews with employees who accessed the safe, investigators determined Poole had taken the money, according to Watt.
