A Woodruff man has been charged in a crash that killed his wife, according to Woodruff police.
Mark Chastain, 59, was charged with reckless homicide following the crash on Edwards Road at 8:20 p.m. on Aug. 27, according to police.
Police said through interviews, a scene survey and the damages to the vehicle they determined Chastain was driving at a high rate of speed.
According to police, after passing one vehicle on a double yellow line in a 25 mph zone, he lost control, overcorrected and crossed into the opposing lane before hitting a tree.
Chastain's wife, Karen, had to be extricated from the car by the Woodruff Fire Department. She died before arriving at the hospital, police said.
He is currently awaiting a bond hearing at the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
