CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) - A Clemson University sophomore from Piedmont whose death is being investigated by the Oconee County Sheriff's Office was laid to rest on Sunday.

Tucker Hipps' body was found in the water under the Highway 93 Bridge on  Sept. 22, 2014 after the teen had been reported missing earlier in the day.

The 19-year-old graduated from Wren High School in 2013, where he was involved in the Palmetto Boys State, a program that allows high school students a hands on way to learn about the U.S. government by participating in a mock system.

While at Clemson, Tucker was also a Sigma Phi Epsilon pledge. Investigators said Tucker was last seen on an early-morning run with other fraternity pledges before his body was found Monday afternoon. So far in their investigation, deputies and Sigma Phi Epsilon have stated the death did not appear linked to hazing.

In a statement released Saturday, the fraternity stated the morning pledge run that Hipps took part in, which frat leaders said is part of a new member education program submitted to campus administrators this semester, may have been in violation of the fraternity's policies and procedures.

Thousands showed up to pay respects during a visitation at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home Northwest in Greenville Friday evening. Hipps' funeral service was held Sunday at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley, where Hipps had been a longtime member.

The service was followed by a burial ceremony at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said Hipps' death is still being investigated. In a statement released on Thursday, Crenshaw said he did not have a timetable as to when the investigation will be completed or more information released.
