LIBERTY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Students, faculty and parents who knew Eva Haynie gathered outside Chastain Road Elementary School in Liberty to honor one of their own.

Eva Haynie 51, and her husband Richard Haynie 54, were found dead in their mountain home on Nov. 24.

The Haywood County Sheriff's office responded to a welfare call at the couple's home and as of now, they are ruling the cause of death to be an apparent murder-suicide. For now, the Liberty community is mourning the loss of a teacher they say they will greatly miss.

"She involved every kid, she didn't have a favorite student, she always went out and bought kids things that didn't have much. She was a very loving person, she loved kids," said Beverly Holden a parent of one of Haynie's students. Parents and children embraced each other as stories of Haynie were shared to honor her life.

"I think the school lost a good teacher, but this staff here is awesome, and I know that the staff will love the kids through this, and they will help them remember the good times with Mrs. Haynie," said Holden. Students at the vigil said the school doesn't feel the same without Haynie.

" We didn't really take tests or write anything down today, all we did was write notes to her and put them in the hallway," said Alex Riddle, a fifth grade student at Chastain Road.

Friends of Haynie who spoke at her vigil say her family was close but that her husband had been battling depression for some time. The Haywood County Sheriff's office is continuing this investigation and they said autopsy's would be completed today.
