Identities of fire victims still unknown; friends and family want answers

Posted: Updated:

Investigators are closer to identifying the five people who died in a Spartanburg apartment fire, but friends and family are anxious for answers. The fire completely destroyed one building in the Southern Pines Apartments on Bryant Road.

Everyone lost their homes and all of their belongings.

A Greenville woman said her best friend lived in a unit on the end of the building, where the fire started, with her little brother, and mother. She said she hasn't heard from the family since and thinks they may not have made it out of the fire.

"I deserve to know what's happening to her. We're not blood but we might as well be," said Lindsey Christopher, the friend of the young woman who lived in the building. Christopher said her friend, who she hasn't heard from since she left her apartment Friday night, is always in touch, as well as her mother and little brother.

"I know in my heart where her room was. I know it's her even though it's not officially confirmed. I know it's her and her family," Christopher said.

The coroner released new information Sunday that they have found possible dentists for the victims from the fire, but they are waiting on receiving the records. "I just want to know it's her, because I know there's a slim possibility that it's not," Christopher said.
