Coroner, deputies investigating after man found dead in Pelzer

PELZER, SC (FOX Carolina) - The Anderson County Coroner is investigating the death of a 29-year-old man from Cleveland, SC, after he was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at a Pelzer home Saturday morning.

Coroner Greg Shore said the Logan McCalister showed up at a home on Smith Street on Friday night looking for a friend of his.

A person who was at home at the time said McCalister then got in a car and drove off, according to Shore.

The coroner said a neighbor knocked on the door Saturday morning after noticing McCalister passed out in a car on the property.

The homeowner and the neighbor called 911 got McCalister inside the house, thinking he might be suffering from hypothermia, Shore said.

When paramedics arrived, Shore said they determined the man had died.

Anderson County deputies and the coroner were then called to the scene.

As of Saturday afternoon, Shore said there was no indication of foul play.

Shore said the victim had a history of prescription drug abuse and had previously been treated for an overdose.

Investigators did not find any drugs on the victim, Shore said.

"We didn't find any injuries or any indications he was in poor health, aside from the drug history," Shore said.

Shore said an autopsy was scheduled for Sunday and toxicology tests had been ordered.
