FOXBORO, MA (WSHM) -

Just hours after winning the AFC Championship game at Gillette Stadium, New England Patriots star defensive tackle Vince Wilfork came to the rescue of a woman who had just been involved in a rollover accident.

Massachusetts state police officials say troopers responded to the accident on Route 1 in Foxboro at about 12:45 a.m. Monday and found a 2015 Jeep Wrangler that had rolled onto its side.

To their surprise, Wilfork was standing beside the vehicle checking on the driver, 38-year-old Mary Ellen Brooks, of Hanson.

Brooks was trapped inside of the vehicle and that's when the Pats' big man stepped into action.

“The only thing I thought about was seeing that there was somebody in there and getting them to safety,” Wilfork said during an interview at Gillette Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Trooper Kenneth Proulx said that he held the driver's door of the vehicle open, while Wilfork reached in and helped lift Brooks out of the vehicle with one hand.

The 6' 2" lineman left the scene of the accident after he ensured that the troopers didn't need any further assistance.

Wilfork said he reflected on the situation on his ride home with his wife after he helped Brooks out of her Jeep.

“My wife and I talked in the car and said things are a lot more precious in life other than games or anything you accomplish in life. There are some things out there that are more important and it showed last night. Even though we won the AFC Championship, there was a life in danger,” Wilfork said. “I was just happy to help.”

Foxboro Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene to check on Brooks following the incident.

She was placed under arrest by Trooper Michael Lokitis and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle following a brief investigation.
