Emergency responders, Nation Guard respond to emergency drill in Anderson County

Posted: Updated:
ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

On Tuesday, the Anderson County Emergency Operations Center will unexpectedly go offline as a medical helicopter transporting injured people is making an emergency landing at the Anderson County Airport, requiring emergency responders at the scene to devise a rescue plan.

The emergency will be a simulated one, designed to test the skills of responders with state and local agencies and test the preparedness of the South Carolina National Guard.

The exercise, which is set to unfold from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Anderson County Airport, is part of an 8-day training program called Vigilant Guard.

The South Carolina National Guard has staged various other disaster scenarios across the state during the training program, which will wrap up on Thursday.
