SENECA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Duke Energy crews will begin upgrading all 65 public alert notification sirens surrounding the Oconee Nuclear Station on Monday.

Officials said after each siren has been upgraded, technicians will perform a "growl test.” During the test, the siren will sound at a very low volume for up to 30 seconds so technicians can be sure the equipment is working properly.

People who live near or are passing by the sirens may hear the tests and see the sirens rotate.

If anyone who sees or hears these tests taking place and has concerns, they Duke officials ask them to contact Duke Energy's World of Energy at 864-873-4600.

Officials expect the project to take two months to complete.
