A line of strong thunderstorms raced across the Upstate bringing heavy rain, strong winds and frequent lightning to the area. The line will continue to travel along the I-85 corridor and push through Spartanburg, Greenville, Anderson and Laurens counties before pushing towards Union & Cherokee.
Wind gusts can reach over 40 miles per hour as the storms push east, dumping heavy rain and potentially causing a bit of flooding in low-lying areas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible into the evening as temperatures get set to fall into the low 70s and upper 60s.
Partly cloudy skies will return for the second half of the weekend with highs peaking in the mid-90s in the Upstate and upper 80s across the western North Carolina throughout the day. Afternoon showers and storms will be possible during the peak heating hours of the day.
