FOUNTAIN INN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Ku Klux Klan member rode his bicycle through two Upstate towns with a Confederate flag attached in a statement about recent flag controversy.

Timothy, who did not want to give his last name, is a member of the original Knight Riders, a faction of the Ku Klux Klan. He said the Klan is not a hate group and the flag is not a symbol of hate. He was at Simpsonville City Hall earlier and was asked to leave because his flag and posters exceeded size restrictions.

He also rode through Fountain Inn to mixed reaction from citizens.

"It's a Christian flag," said Timothy. "The original Knight Riders is a Christian organization."

"If that's what he wants to be a member of, that's him," said Dreze Shell, owner of Uptown Barbershop in Fountain Inn.

Timothy said he will continue to ride around handing out Klan literature and promoting the flag where it is permitted.
