WASHINGTON (FOX Carolina) -

Vice President Joe Biden on Friday made a statement on the removal of the Confederate Flag from South Carolina State House grounds.

Biden said in his statement:

"The South Carolina legislature has done the right thing by voting to remove the Confederate Battle Flag from the state house grounds. It is my hope and prayer that this will help the healing process and not only bring comfort to the families of Mother Emanuel, but also bring together the people of South Carolina and our nation to build a better future.

"Dr. Martin Luther King was right in his final sermon when he said: 'Somewhere we must come to see that human progress never rolls in on the wheels of inevitability. It comes through the tireless efforts and the persistent work of dedicated individuals who are willing to be co-workers with God.'

"I commend all of the lawmakers from both parties who showed courage and conviction to move the wheels of progress forward, and affirm that we are one America."
