GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A small fountain of water leaked on Staunton Court in front of Frank Barrets home.

He said the leak has been there since Thursday of last week and in the 10 years he's lived in his home,  he said this has happened far too many times.

"At least six times, if not probably close to the eighth that I've had a water break right here at my house," said Frank Barrett.

He said none of those water main leaks were ever as bad as the one he currently is dealing with.

"This time it's coming up out of the ground  like a water faucet," said Barrett.

He said he called Greenville Water System on Thursday. A spokesperson for Greenville Water said they came out that day to assess the severity of the leak and said since Barrett still had water, it was considered a non-emergency.

Greenville Water said they call 811 before they dig in order to alert companies if their may a gas line in the same location of the leak, and they said it could take as many as 4 days for that process to be complete.

"There's no excuse to waste this much water for an hour and a half to a three hour job to fix the problem," said Barrett.

Greenville Water said they fixed the problem shortly after five Monday evening. But Barrett said a repair is not the solution, he wants the whole road to be replaced with new piping. "To where not just me but the rest of the neighbors can be safe and knowing that we're getting the water that we're supposed to be getting," said Barrett.

Greenville Water said they are now going to look at the history of leaks at Barrett's home and decide if the pipes need to be replaced, not just patched.
