MURPHY, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A new Harrah’s casino and resort grand opens Monday in Murphy, NC.

The Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation and Caesars Entertainment partnered to build Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel, which opens at 2 p.m. Monday.

The resort features 50,000 square feet of gaming space with more than 1,000 slot machines and 70 table games; a food court; and a 300-room, full service hotel, according to a news release.

The casino complex is located at 777 Casino Drive, just off Highway 74, about one mile east of Walmart.

Construction of the $110 million complex took nearly 2 years and created 500 construction jobs.

The casino will employ approximately 900 people. Click here to view employment opportunities.

The Murphy casino is the second Harrah's casino in Cherokee County and is expected to draw more than one million visitors each year, local officials estimated. The much larger Harrah's Cherokee Casino opened in 1997, draws more than four million people each year and makes a $300 million annual impact on Jackson and Swain counties, according to a study by the University of North Carolina.
