CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

When you're a student or an employee at Clemson University, you need to be able to get around. Depending on the location of classes, the campus can take some time to maneuver.

People around campus hop on bikes or mopeds or just walk to get around campus. Kat Moreland is a student and school employee.

"I've worked three years as an employee and 10 as a student," she said.

Getting around campus isn't like it used to be for Moreland. She's now carrying a passenger, and at five months pregnant needs and wants convenience.

She signed up for the new car sharing program called Zipcar.

"I love it," she said as she smiled.

She takes the bus from the International Center for Automotive Research (ICAR) in Greenville to campus, but when she's on campus she doesn't have a car.

"I save a ton of money in gas, but every once in awhile you just need a car," she said.

Transportation Demand Management Program Coordinator, Brian Maleck, wants others to sign up for the program.

"We have six cars on campus that are available to students, faculty and staff," Maleck said."And included with your reservation is gas mileage, and insurance."

He says potential drivers sign up and reserve a car online or by phone.

"That reservation can be an hour, that can be overnight, that can be a couple of days," he said.

Maleck said once you locate the care you want to rent, drivers tap the windshield with their Zipcards to unlock it and then drive off.

So far, there are six Zipcars around campus and 80 people use the service. Students who are interested pay a $25 sign up fee, but then receive $35 in driving credits. As for employees, they don't pay a fee, but they don't get driving credits.
