Laurens Co. reeling from aftermath of rainy weekend

Posted: Updated:
LAURENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

From rushing water filling rivers, to flooded streets leaving drivers no way to pass. It's been a weekend of wet weather and there are still a lot of issues that emergency services in Laurens County are worried about.

"We don't know how much more rain we're gonna get but our concern right now is the wind with as soft as the ground is right now they could very easily fall down and take out more power lines," said Robin Morse the Chief of Police for Clinton.

Down trees is one of the biggest issues Chief Morse said they've had since the rain started. but earlier today is when he says they had the most issues.

"Roads flooded due to drains not being able to handle that level of water," said Morse.

He said in preparation for the storms, they had the drains cleared out but he says they filled back up with debris. On Palmetto and Peachtree Street there was flooding that led to street closures.

"It was kind of, it was kind of scary and like a lot of my neighbors they still came back," said Justice Dobbins. He said he and his family stayed with family members in the area until the flooding went away.

"Don't go out unless you absolutely have to, stay home and lets let this weather clear up and let's get everything cleared up so it will be safe when you do go out," said Morse.
