LAURENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The solicitor confirmed on Tuesday that a former Laurens High School assistant wrestling coach has plead guilty to first degree assault and battery as well as contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Laurens police charged Joseph Kemp, 29, with second-degree criminal sexual conduct on Nov 3. His bond was set at $75,000.

On the day of Kemp's trial, the solicitor said he plead guilty to lesser charges. He will be required to register on the sex offender registry for life, the report says.

The solicitor said in a statement:

"Kemp pled guilty on the day his trial was to start to contributing to delinquency of a minor and a&b 1st degree.  Circuit Judge Frank Addy sentenced him to 3 years active prison time, to be followed by a consecutive 10 year sentence (suspended upon 4 years probation).  He will required to register as a sex offender for life when he is released from prison.

The family of the victim is reportedly satisfied with the resolution to the case. They said: "We were glad that the victim now has some closure without having to testify."

The victim involved in the case was a Laurens High School student, reports said.

According to police, authorities were notified of the conduct by a school resource officer.

Kemp appeared emotional at a bond hearing on Nov 5.

Laurens School District 55 released the following statement after Kemp's arrest:

"Joseph Kemp, who was employed as an assistant wrestling coach at Laurens District High School was arrested on allegations of criminal sexual conduct. Mr. Kemp served as the assistant wrestling coach and was not employed in any other capacity in the district. He has been removed from his coaching responsibilities.

The safety of our students is our number one priority. Any behavior that compromises the safety and well being of our students and the trust of our community will not and cannot be tolerated."

A manager with Laurens Family YMCA told FOX Carolina that Kemp was not employed with the organization, but was under contract to run a youth wrestling program. The manager said Kemp hasn't been under contract with them since February and says don't have plans to bring the program back.

Officers are asking anyone else who may be a victim to contact the Laurens Police Department.
