ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man accused of killing an Anderson County K-9 officer and firing shots at deputies will stay behind bars.

David Morris Jr. faced charges of attempted murder, cruelty to a police dog, and weapons offenses.

Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said Morris was one of three suspects who ran from deputies that tried to stop a car that was reported stolen on October 22, 2015.

The men ran after the car came to a stop on New Prospect Church Road and began firing shots at the deputies and K-9 that was chasing them.

K-9 officer Hyco was shot in the face and died a short time later.

Morris and two others, Martavious Craig and Sergio Martin, were arrested and charged in the case.

Skipper said Shirlandria Dixon lied when she reported the initial carjacking. She was charged with filing a false police report.

On June 15, Morris appeared in court and pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder, one charge of carrying a weapon and another for cruelty to a police dog. He was sentenced to 12 years.
