GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

It's not a surprise that traffic along Woodruff Road and Haywood Road is bad, but Greenville Police say it's even worse around the holidays.  They have placed temporary barricades on Woodruff Road as well as at the Shops at Greenridge.

"The off duty officers, we'll bring them in on the Haywood Rd, Woodruff Rd... areas where all the businesses are the people go for shopping, and we'll have them either controlling the lights or doing traffic control," said Johnathan Bragg.

Bragg is a member of the Greenville Police Department and said Greenville is a commuter city that already has a lot of traffic throughout the year. "It attracts a lot of people from a lot of different cities, around Greenville, outside the holiday season as well which is a daily process of getting people in and out safely," said Bragg.

Drivers say they are frustrated with the never ending traffic. "It is so overwhelming!" said Jaquez Mosely. Mosely was shopping with friends at Magnolia Park and said he's a new driver and tries to give all his attention to his driving.

"Everybody is so bumbled together, it doesn't make any sense, I mean you try to drive safe but there's a car every single inch you try to drive," said Jacob Tate.

Bragg said officers have increased patrol in many areas throughout the city where many people shop during the holidays, "to show presence that way the motorists know not to block intersections to cause a wreck ."

He said wrecks are the biggest issue they deal with this time of year which he said leads to more traffic and congestion.

"If you're gonna go out, anytime of day, you just need to realize you're gonna run into traffic congestion whether it be an unexpected wreck or just the traffic of the day," said Bragg.
