WESTMINSTER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The family of a Westminster man shot to death is raising money for funeral expenses.

Authorities say Jesse Mulkey, 33, died Sunday while undergoing surgery at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Oconee County deputies said they were called to the home on Brock Road and found Mulkey with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Deputies are investigating the death as a homicide, but said they do not believe there is any danger to the public.

Coroner Karl Addis said an autopsy will be performed Tuesday to determine a cause of death.

Meanwhile, Mulkey’s family has set up a GoFundMe page in hopes of raising money to cover funeral expenses.

Mulkey’s sister says on the page that her brother was “a good person” with a “kind heart.”

She says that any donation would help the family cover the costs for a service that was completely unexpected.

“We did not know this was going to happen sometimes death creeps in when us not knowing… We need prayers, keep us in your thoughts,” she says.

She goes on to say that Mulkey’s life ended too soon. “He was something else. IF you have it please donate, if you don’t it is okay just pray. We will be thankful.”
