My X-Files memories and a look ahead to the premiere

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

It was part of my weekly routine on Sunday nights from the mid 90’s to the early 2000’s… I would watch the X-Files on the Fox affiliate in Houston, TX KRIV-TV and sit on the edge of my seat.  I would often put a vhs tape in so I could re-watch the episodes! I had no idea that 20 years later there would be DVR’s and streaming!!!

Needless to say, I’m very excited that it is coming back to Fox, and we’ll be airing the premiere of the new season on Fox Carolina on Sunday, January 24 after NFL football. You can see the preview of the season here: PREVIEW

I really enjoyed the preview, and I’m excited that the 6 episode event will tackle some of the unanswered things like “where is Mulder and Scully’s son?”! That is probably one of the biggest looming questions. But also they will address more of the conspiracy while mixing in some fun/scary stand-alone episodes.

I have tried to pick my favorite episode but that was impossible. I enjoy both the “mythology” episodes, as well as the stand-alone, monster-of-the-week episodes. If you are looking for a few good episodes to watch before the premiere, I suggest these. No spoilers but I give you an idea of what to expect:

“Ice” (The worm under the skin was pretty gross, and the atmosphere of the whole episode was so different and creepy!)

“Beyond The Sea” (This is where Scully’s dad passes away. We learn more about her character as she grieves but also works on analyzing a serial killer)

“Conduit” (The 0’s and 1’s! Great acting by the supporting cast and it’s a classic alien abduction episode)

“One Breath” (Scully comes back after being abducted and in a coma. The imagery used in Scully’s dream of being tied to a dock in a life boat still gives me the chills)

“The Host” (Best monster ever!)

“Humbug” (A killer is running rampant at the circus, and the ending is very unexpected!)

“Colony” (Great mythology two-parter)

“End Game” (ditto)

“Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose” (A favorite of X-Files fans, Just watch it!)

“Quagmire” (A lake monster! Plus one of the best Mulder and Scully dialogue scenes)

“Wetwired” (Something makes Scully go crazy, and you see another side of her!)

“Momento Mori” (Scully’s cancer diagnosis. I think this episode’s performance won her the emmy)

“Bad Blood” (Vampires and Owen Wilson. Nuff said)

“Drive” (Bryan Cranston guest stars. Really good)

“Field Trip” (Mulder and Scully try to find out how a couple died in the forest)

“Je Souhaite” (3 wishes from a genie. Great comic and somewhat deep episode)

What are YOUR favorites? And what drew you to the series back then? Also, do you plan to watch the upcoming 6 episode event? Email me at Kendra.kent@foxcarolina.com and I’ll share your comments in my next post!
