Cold Monday, chance for mountain snow Tuesday

WHNS (FOX Carolina) -

Cold Canadian high pressure will gradually build across our region through Monday keeping the Upstate dry and chilly. Monday will see lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s area wide.

With upslope winds on the westward facing mountains along the Tennessee border, some parts of the North Carolina mountains will have a few snow showers overnight.  On Tuesday, another cold front will cross the area late in the day bringing more snow showers to areas north and west of Asheville.

All of western North Carolina will be windy as the front moves through.  The Upstate will just have a few clouds and breezy conditions as this front passes through South Carolina bringing a reinforcement of cold air to the area.

Thus, we can expect continued colder than normal temperatures most of the week.

Another chance for precipitation returns next weekend and early the following week as two low pressure systems cross the southeast region.  One will cross the area Friday into Saturday and that may bring a light wintry mix Friday night into Saturday for the mountains.

The Upstate should just see some light rain as it looks now.  Then a stronger system moves in Sunday into Monday and it will bring a better chance for wintry precipitation to the mountains.

It still looks like mainly rain to the Upstate.

The FOX Carolina weather team will track both systems very closely over the next week and update the forecast as we get closer to the weekend.
