GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

As the rain moved out on Friday, a lot of Upstate residents spotted rainbows in the sky, but one man got just the right perspective to capture a rare phenomenon.

From the ground, you can typically only see part of a rainbow, but from a high enough vantage point, you can see the entire 360-degree circle.

"This is something I have never seen, but turns out to be legit," said chief meteorologist Kendra Kent. "As the sun sets, the rainbows grow higher. The rainbows can continue along at sea-level, but we just can’t see them because we aren’t high up. That’s why pilots and drones can capture this amazing scene but we can’t see it!”

Brad Hudson with The City Arborist, LLC, a Greenville tree care company, said he was at a 400-foot elevation on Friday when he snapped a photograph of a full circle rainbow.

"Pictures are all about the angle and apparently so is capturing a full circle rainbow," Hudson said. "As the camera moved slightly, it went from looking like a normal rainbow to a circle."

Hudson shared the photo on The City Arborist Instagram.
