Ben Carson has announced he will resume his presidential campaign on Thursday - two days after the death of a "beloved" volunteer.

The retired neurosurgeon was in South Carolina in Tuesday when he learned that a volunteer for his campaign died after he was hospitalized with injuries from a car accident in western Iowa. Three other campaign workers also were hurt.

The campaign volunteer, Braden Joplin, 25, died late Tuesday afternoon, according to media reports.

Carson shared his grief on social media – posting a picture of himself and Joplin on Twitter writing “"Rest In Peace Braden Joplin. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

In a statement released Thursday, Carson requested “continued prayers for the family of beloved and devoted Carson campaign volunteer, Braden Joplin.”

Carson will resume his campaign with two stops Thursday in Iowa.
