X-File Premiere Review - FOX Carolina 21

X-File Premiere Review

Posted: Updated:

What a way to head into the premiere of the X-Files last night… with a Panthers win! That meant there were a lot of people from this area watching, and I hope everyone stuck around for the first of 6 episodes of the X-Files!

As I mentioned in previous blogs, I was a huge fan of the show back when it was airing on Fox in the 90s and early 2000’s. Ever since it went off the air, I still watch old episodes from time to time. So, it was really exciting to see it come back, and be able to share the X-Files experience with my husband.

Both my husband and I weren’t too sure how it was going to go… It has been so long since X-Files was on the air, and I really hoped they would stay true to the show I loved so much with the revival. Well, I was completely satisfied! I think they took the show and put a modern day spin on it. SPOILERS AHEAD SO STOP READING IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED YET.

The chemistry between Mulder and Scully is definitely still there after all these years, and it’s one of the reasons I loved the show so much in the first place. I thought they had some good moments, and it came to light that Scully diagnosed Mulder with depression. And that is what broke them up! So now we have an answer for that, but where will it go from here?? There are definitely hints and signs that they will end up together again, but something tells me the show will draw that out for a while. I thought it was funny that Scully was basically heading out on a date with Joel McHale’s character, but cut that short when Mulder called.

The alien conspiracy stuff…. It wasn’t anything too new, as the government was always at the heart of the conspiracy through the show. But they took it to a new level in this episode. And Scully having the alien DNA… I definitely felt that one coming. What it will mean for her will be interesting to find out.

The effects are WAY better now that in the old X-Files! The alien replica aircraft was awesome, and the crash scene in the beginning looked incredibly real.

All in all, I think the premiere met my expectations, and it left me really wanting more. And that was the point I think!  The last scene with Cigarette Smoking Man was intense, and clearly he survived the fire….Seeing Skinner again was great as well, and I hope he has a big part in this 6 episode event. Let me know what you loved, liked, disliked or hated about the premiere! I’ll share your thoughts in my next blog!
