PELZER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

One Anderson County mother is counting her blessings.

Elizabeth Burns said she watched her 8-year-old son, Brayden Burn, almost get run over by a speeding mini van Monday afternoon after he was getting off the school bus.

She said the only reason her son is still standing is because of his bus driver.

“I’m just standing their watching. I hear a motor, look down toward the bridge, "Are you going to stop?" is what's running through my head,” Burn said.

The bus driver, Sacajawea Blassingame, known to her bus riders as "Miss Tweet," used her training to help save Brayden Burn’s life.

“I was holding Brayden on the right and his grandma was waiting for him,” Blassingame said. “The car just didn't stop and if he had been in the process of going across he would have been hit."

The bus driver laid on her horn alerting Brayden and stopping him from crossing the street seconds before the speeding mini-van came rushing by.

His mother said she might have had to buried her child if it weren’t for Blassingame.

“Thank you because you kept me sane, and you kept my heart with me,” Burns said.

Blassingame said she was just doing her job.

“It's my job, but it's my job as a transportation specialist, that the child is my number one priority,” Blassingame said.
