Henderson County Public Schools are honoring bus drivers during the week of Feb. 8-12 as part of N.C. School Bus Driver Appreciation Week.
Each day, HCPS bus drivers carry 6,300 children throughout the county and cover more than 1 million miles each year, administrators said.
"Our bus drivers are tasked with the incredible responsibility of transporting the most precious cargo to and from schools on tight schedules," said Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services Bo Caldwell. "We appreciate their dedication and compassion for all the students in their care."
Several schools, including Apple Valley Middle, Atkinson Elementary, Clear Creek Elementary, Dana Elementary and Sugarloaf Elementary will serve breakfast for bus drivers during the week. Atkinson and Clear Creek are hosting ice cream socials for their drivers. At other schools, students are making banners, cards, and other gifts to honor bus drivers.
