CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Clemson University will help ring in Upstate International Month by ringing “100 Bells” Tuesday.

Performing arts students will play 18 different national anthems on the Clemson Memorial Carillon bells beginning at noon in coordination with other churches and institutions across the upstate as a part of Upstate International Month's "100 Bells" kickoff event.

According to a news release, the event's name honors the rich tradition of Greenville's sister city, Bergamo, Italy. The Italian city rings bells 100 times every evening to mark the old curfew when the city’s gates were locked each night.

The countries represented include France, Germany, Poland, China, Cuba, Spain, Philippines, Italy, Mexico, India, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, Turkey, Thailand, Canada, United Kingdom and the United States.
Officials said the performance will last approximately one hour and can be enjoyed from within a quarter-mile radius of Tillman Hall.
