GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

After receiving information about traffic concerns outside of Berea High School, FOX Carolina reached out to the school district for more information.

Greenville County Schools released the following statement regarding concerns that drivers are not parking in the proper location when picking up students at the end of the day:

Berea High School and Greenville County Schools are concerned about the safety and welfare of students and staff including enforcement of drop off and pick up procedures on campus.  The primary issue is some parents do not use the student pick-up line and instead park in the surrounding neighborhood in lots and on sidewalks and streets. Due to safety concerns, the school has sent out numerous school messages asking that parents only pick up and drop off students in the pick-up line. Also, the student and staff parking lots have been blocked off to prevent their use as a cut through.  Several members of our facilities department who are experienced in traffic control are evaluating ongoing traffic concerns in parking lots surrounding Berea High to determine any additional solutions.

Greenville County Schools has jurisdiction on school property only. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is better able to comment on codes regarding traffic enforcement for street and sidewalk parking.

FOX Carolina has reached out to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office for further comment.
