CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

UPDATE: In July 2016, the charge was expunged from Davis McCarter's record after successful completion of a Pre-Trial Intervention Program.

Three Clemson students are facing felony charges after starting a fire outside two residence halls.

Clemson University said Matthew Griffin Skinner, 19, of Virginia; Patrick James Gilligan, 18, of Ohio; and Davis Ryan McCarter, 19, of Clover are charged with third-degree arson, which is classified as a felony.

Police said the three students were arrested on Wednesday in connection with a futon that was set on fire around 2 a.m. Sunday outside Wannamaker and Bradley residence halls.

All three have been released on a $1,500 personal recognizance bonds.

*Note, the story has been update to reflect the fire was outside of the dorms, not inside.
