SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Duncan Elementary was closed Tuesday because of hail and water damage, according to district leaders.

Spartanburg District Five announced that the school was extensively damaged from Monday’s severe weather, including hail damage to the roof and water inside the building.

School officials said more than 30 roof leaks were detected from hail damage. Carpeting, rugs and furniture were being assessed Tuesday to determine if the items were salvageable.

A spokeswoman with Spartanburg School District 5 said Tuesday that the school is safe for students.

There is still some damage to books, carpet and other things that still needs to be fixed but students are safe to be back in school on Wednesday.
