GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The community is invited to leave flowers and condolences with a fallen Greenville officer's patrol car.

Officer Allen Jacobs, 28, was fatally shot by a known gang member in the line of duty on Friday, Chief Ken Miller said. Jacobs served with the department since 2011 and worked on the Community Response Team and SWAT.

Jacobs leaves behind a pregnant wife and two sons.

His patrol car was stationed at the back entrance of the Law Enforcement Center on East Stone Avenue on Friday night.

Officers said this was done so the community had leave flowers honoring Jacobs.

Donations for his family can be made to the Allen Jacobs Fund at any TD Bank branch.
