MAXTON, N.C. (AP) - One man has died and another was hurt when a trash container fell off a forklift at a soup plant in North Carolina. The Robeson County Sheriff's Office said 69-year-old Alex Radford of Laurinburg died late Sunday morning when the container fell on him at the Campbell Soup plant in Maxton. A man who tried to help Radford was also trapped under the bin briefly.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - One person has been shot and killed at a home in eastern North Carolina. Fayetteville Police said officers were called to a home around 9:45 p.m. Monday. Investigators think someone approached the victim and pulled a gun and fired before fleeing the area. The victim's name has not been released yet. No arrests have been reported.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The vote was close, but city leaders in Charlotte, North Carolina, have agreed to make a bid to host the 2020 Republican National Convention. After a public discussion period Monday with more than 100 speakers and nearly one hour of debate among themselves, the Charlotte City Council voted 6-5 in favor of hosting the event.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Relatives of a North Carolina man fatally shot by a deputy can proceed with a wrongful death lawsuit after a judge found sufficient evidence that his constitutional rights were violated. U.S. District Judge Terrence Boyle rejected a request by the Harnett County Sheriff's Office to dismiss the case. Boyle wrote that it appears a deputy violated John David Livingston's rights by entering his home without a warrant and using excessive force during the 2015 shooting.
