COLUMBUS, N.C. (AP) - Officials in a North Carolina county where a woman died in a mudslide are recommending voluntary evacuations of some areas as a subtropical storm threatens. Emergency officials in Polk County are recommending that residents of some vulnerable areas evacuate by 5 p.m. Sunday.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina legislators want to set aside another $60 million to continue recovery efforts after Hurricane Matthew and other disasters, as well as to prepare for the next storm. Senate and House Republicans announced Friday state budget adjustments being voted on next week would include the amount going into a disaster relief reserve. This is on top of $300 million for state disaster relief funded since Matthew in late 2016.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A father and son who belong to a secretive evangelical church in North Carolina have pleaded guilty to charges in an unemployment benefits scheme that former congregants have said was part of a plan to keep money flowing into the church. As part of an ongoing investigation into physical and emotional abuse at the Word of Faith Fellowship Church in Spindale, North Carolina, The Associated Press reported authorities were looking into the unemployment dealings of congregants businesses.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) - The names of four Special Forces soldiers killed last year in an ambush in Niger are among those that have been added to a memorial wall at Fort Bragg. The names of Staff Sgt. Bryan C. Black, Sgt. 1st Class Jeremiah W. Johnson, Staff Sgt. Dustin M. Wright and Sgt. La David T. Johnson have been added to the wall.
