COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Former South Carolina Attorney General Charlie Condon faces questions from lawmakers to determine whether he will lead embattled state-owned utility company Santee Cooper. The Charleston attorney told a state panel Thursday that his goal is to provide accountable leadership and transparency. Gov. Henry McMaster tapped the former prosecutor for the position last month.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A Republican challenging South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster says he has a plan to restore ethics to the state's government. In a statement to The Associated Press, John Warren's campaign Thursday called for full income disclosures for public officials paid by lobbyist principals, as well as two-year ban on former agency employees receiving contracts from that same agency.

SUMTER, S.C. (AP) - A man has been charged in the death of a Sumter woman whose body was found inside her apartment. Sumter police tell local media outlets that 50-year-Alonzo Shaw was charged with murder Thursday morning.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - Two South Carolina parents are facing neglect charges after police say their two-year-old son died in their custody. Local media report a judge on Wednesday denied bond for 33-year-old Bruce Williams and 25-year-old Lakeshia Jackson.
