Telehealth could reduce workplace absenteeism, doctors say

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Doctors in Greenville say a new Telehealth program that allows you to visit the doctor on your computer or smart device, could be beneficial for you and your employer. Bon Secours St. Francis is just the latest hospital system to adopt the Telehealth program. Theirs is called Bon Secours 24-7.

It works just like a regular doctor visit except it's via video conference. Doctors say billions of dollars in productivity are lost annually because of employees who have to take sick time for doctors visits, and they hope this new system will reduce that problem.

"If a child is sick, it's a matter of the child missing school the employee missing work  - everybody really is affected," said Dr. Sherri DeHaas with American Well, a partner of Bon Secours St. Francis.

"One of the most critical issues that we have with employee productivity is absenteeism," said Catherine Culler, a professional recruiter in Greenville at Godshall staffing agency. "In this time where talent is so critical for each organization, any time away from the office is gonna affect other employees and morale of other employees."

Doctors said the new system may cut down on wait times.

Co-pays will still be applicable.
